A canonical Hamiltonian for open quantum systems

چکیده

If an open quantum system is initially uncorrelated from its environment, then dynamics can be written in terms of a Lindblad-form master equation. The equation divided into unitary piece, represented by effective Hamiltonian, and dissipative hermiticity-preserving superoperator; however, the division pieces non-unique. For finite-dimensional systems, we resolve this non-uniqueness specifying norm on space superoperators defining canonical Hamiltonian to one whose dissipator minimal. We show that thus defined equivalent Lindblad, it uniquely specified requiring dissipator's jump operators traceless, extending uniqueness result known previously special case Markovian equations. weakly coupled give recursive formula for computing arbitrary orders perturbation theory, which think as perturbative scheme renormalizing system's bare Hamiltonian.

Explicit Canonical Methods for Hamiltonian Systems

We consider canonical partitioned Runge-Kutta methods for separable Hamiltonians H = T(ß) + Viq) and canonical Runge-Kutta-Nyström methods for Hamiltonians of the form H = ^pTM~lp + Viq) with M a diagonal matrix. We show that for explicit methods there is great simplification in their structure. Canonical methods of orders one through four are constructed. Numerical experiments indicate the sui...

Lecture 15: Open quantum systems: Hamiltonian formulation and master equations

Open quantum systems are ones that are coupled to an environment that we cannot control or observe completely and therefore must average over in our modeling. In the last lecture we saw how to represent open quantum system dynamics in terms of the Kraus representation (also referred to as a CPTP map, or operator sum representation (OSR)). This representation let us write the reduced state of th...

Canonical versus noncanonical equilibration dynamics of open quantum systems.

In statistical mechanics, any quantum system in equilibrium with its weakly coupled reservoir is described by a canonical state at the same temperature as the reservoir. Here, by studying the equilibration dynamics of a harmonic oscillator interacting with a reservoir, we evaluate microscopically the condition under which the equilibration to a canonical state is valid. It is revealed that the ...

Quantum Bi-Hamiltonian Systems

We define quantum bi-Hamiltonian systems, by analogy with the classical case, as derivations in operator algebras which are inner derivations with respect to two compatible associative structures. We find such structures by means of the associative version of Nijenhuis tensors. Explicit examples, e.g. for the harmonic oscillator, are given.
